Local Authority charges for property searches
The Government has this week published a further consultation on local authority charges for property searches. The report outlines the Government’s preferred approach to future charging arrangements following an earlier consultation on this topic published in January 2008. It also sets out the draft legal framework to implement them.

CoPSO questionnaire: Government charging proposals
The Government has recently published proposals to allow local authorities to charge personal search agents and companies for access to their data. The proposals are based on local cost recovery – this is not the industry’s favoured option, but if we are to challenge it, we urgently need our own evidence.

Poor performing local authorities delay HIPs.
A leading conveyancing trade association has described the Government’s decision to extend first day marketing on HIPs as ‘a sad inevitablity’. The Council of Property Search Organisations (CoPSO), the major trade association for the property search industry, said the decision to delay what would be a full roll-out for HIPs was the fault of under-performing local authorities.

Land Data and CoPSO launch first local search summit
Land Data (formerly C-NLIS) and The Council of Property Search Organisations (CoPSO) has launched the first ever Summit for the local search sector. The “Local Search Summit” will bring together personal search companies and local authorities to discuss ways of working together to improve the delivery of local searches to the consumer.
