Annual Conference 2014

30 October 2014

The 2014 CoPSO Conference in Derby on 16th October was well received by delegates with universally positive feedback.

The morning was devoted to the all important quality agenda for the search industry and the latest updates in respect of the provisions of the search code with Denis Purshouse. There was discussion about the insurance provisions in the code and how they can be further developed to the benefit of consumers and property professionals. There was also a discussion about the admittance of local authorities as Search Code subscribers, which is an intriguing and perhaps complex issue.

The afternoon contained some very interesting and contemporary presentations in respect of the political landscape in the run up to the election in May next year, the Law Society's new Veyo proposition and the Land Registry plans to centralise the Local Land Charges Register. The professionalism shown by three presenters, Emily Watson from GK Strategy, Mike Westcott-Rudd from the Land Registry and Paul Shipway from Veyo were greatly appreciated by delegates. Some of the content of the presentations did create some controversy however and there were animated and well founded exchanges of views in the Q and A and discussions following the presentations.

The open engagement with key stakeholders at CoPSO events is what makes them different and engaging and helps members to consider their strategies and plans for coming months and years. The outputs also help to shape the objectives and plans that CoPSO must pursue to the benefit of consumers, property professionals and of course it's members.
